Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK)President, Dr Suhail Naik in a communique said that “we have received many complaints from doctors working in different hospitals of Kashmir valley especially by female folk regarding the harassment at work places faced by them through their respective Drawing and Disbursing Officers(DDO’s) including Chief Medical Officers(CMO’s)/Medical Superintendents /Block Medical Officers (BMO’s) for small issues like leaves, withdrawal of salary, medical insurance, duty roster adjustments, Service book entries etc”. He further said that “It is also disheartening that few of them have become puppets of local politicians and bureaucrats, they not only force the doctors of their hospitals to attend them at their residences for minor ailments keeping common masses in lurch but to please them they defer genuine referrals of poor patients by specialists”. “This dominant approach of these authorities has not only damaged our work culture but has also created sense of dissatisfaction”,Dr Naik further added. DAK urges the Hon’ble Health Minster Mr Bali Bhagat and Director Health Services(DHS), Kashmir Dr Saleem ur Rehman to make functional the “Grievance Cell” at every district and division level so that these cases can be properly probed and warranted action will be taken against culprits . If such a system is put into place it will not only make these erring officers extra cautious for such activities but will also help in smooth functioning of Health and Medical Education department.(KNO)
